When is the best time to fish?
The time effects how many fish are caught, for example June to August are hit and miss as it is so hot, but September to March are the best times to catch as much fish as possible, and there is no pike fishing before the first of October. Some fish only like to come out under the cover of darkness, but in winter it is too cold to fish in darker hours. The best times of day would be at first light, but by 11:00-12:00 it will be too hot for the fish to want to feed so they won’t come out, and then in the late afternoon to the evening is when they feed again. Some weather conditions may also affect the number of fish caught, for example drastic changes in environment, like heat waves or frosts, but after the fish have acclimatised then the fishing should pick back up again.
What equipment do I need to start fishing?
If you need to know what basic equipment to have, then you need to think about how you’re approaching fishing, if you just want to have some fun and catch some fish then basic equipment will do, basic bait like worms and bread flakes and a basic rod, but if you would like to take it more seriously and even fish competitively then you pay for what you get. The local angling society are always happy to advise new anglers.
How do I get into fishing?
If you are an inexperienced angler, you will find that the community is very friendly, and often people share their old equipment and help others learn, so don’t be afraid to ask and most people will be more than happy to take you under their wing. Fishing is a great opportunity to make some great new friends.
